Education, Qualification, and Experience Requirements:
- Valid Refrigeration (W) Certificate, or Valid Class 5 Power Engineer Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Two years’ boiler/mechanical experience; experience operating commercial or 
industrial grade refrigeration plants, swimming pools and ice rink equipment is an 
asset.
- First Aid/CPR/AED and WHIMS 2017 training is an asset.
- Criminal Record Check Required.


Shift Engineer Responsibilities:
General 
- Perform all work safely, stop and ask questions if a situation seems unsafe. 
- Check building safety equipment such as emergency exits, lighting, fire alarms, fire 
extinguishers. Controls evacuation of facility in emergency situations.
- Reports to the Chief Engineer with any outstanding issues and concerns 
throughout the facility regarding problems that cannot be resolved on demand and 
works with Chief Engineer when required.
- Safe, efficient operation and maintenance of the interior and exterior facility, 
including boilers, refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other 
equipment in accordance with the building codes, laws and regulations of the 
Power Engineer’s Act. 
- Inspect, analyze, and troubleshoot systems and equipment. 
- Provides member service, according to the Winnipeg Winter Club standards and 
deals with member concerns respectfully and without prejudice. 

- Responds to on-call maintenance tasks throughout the day for staff and members.
- Conduct inventory of materials, supplies, tools and equipment and reports this to 
the Chief Engineer.
- Work with WWC staff to coordinate, resolve, and execute safe, effective, efficient 
decisions.
- Works with Chief Engineer and WWC staff to coordinate work performed by 
contractors.
- All other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer or CEO.

Ice Rink
- Prepare ice surface (flooding) with ice re-surfacer in a timely fashion.
- Maintain equipment including ice-resurfacer, and clean various areas throughout 
the arena including change rooms.
- Inspect, monitor, and adjust ice plant refrigeration equipment and record 
appropriate operating data.
- On an annual basis, shuts down the ice rink to perform or assist with repairs, ice 
removal and replacement.

Pool
- Monitor, add and adjust pool chemicals as necessary. 
- Performs pool maintenance such as vacuuming and filter cleaning.
- On an annual basis, shuts down pool for maintenance such as painting of the pool, 
repairs to equipment and decking.

Grounds
- Various grounds keeping tasks as required.
- Shovel snow from doorways in winter.
- Patrol parking lot as required.
